LACK OF WINTER TYRE KNOWLEDGE COULD PUT MOTORISTS AT RISK SAYS MYTYRES.CO.UK

According to a recent survey* undertaken by online tyre retailer mytres.co.uk. - part of Europe's leading online tyre retailing group Delticom - the vast majority of UK motorists have little or no knowledge of the benefits of winter tyres and this is in spite of the problems caused on the roads after the last two years of very bad winters across the British Isles. The survey shows that only 6% of motorists questioned said that they would consider buying winter tyres.

The survey also showed, disappointingly, that 37% of motorists don't know what winter tyres are and 31% didn't know that they could purchase them in the UK. Surprisingly younger driver were less knowledgeable about the benefits of winter tyres than older drivers. These include better traction in snow and icy conditions and better stopping distances.

In terms of cost, motorists questioned in the survey thought that winter tyres were considerable more expensive than normal tyres - mytyres.co.uk in fact has one of the widest ranges of competitively priced winter tyres. The survey also found that, interestingly, 75% of people said that it was important to stay mobile in winter weather.

Mytyres.co.uk, part of Europe's leading online tyre retailer Delticom, acknowledged as being the specialists in the supply of winter tyres across Europe, has ramped up stocks of winter tyres in the UK anticipating the possible potential for another strong winter, as weather experts forecast for the UK this year. In Germany, Italy and most of the Scandinavian countries, amongst others, there are legal requirements covering the use of winter tyres. Whilst there are no suggestions of a change in the law requiring the fitment of winter tyres in England, the Scottish parliament has discussed this matter, but no decision has yet been taken.
