Delticom Report: Splendid potential for tyre purchase on the Internet

Among the reasons for buying tyres online, favourable price is only in third place

Hanover, April 5th, 2010. One in three German drivers can imagine buying tyres online. In the under 30 year olds, the proportion of potential online buyers is as high as 42 percent. This is the result of the Delticom Report "Reifen-Online 2010". The report is based on a current and representative Forsa-Poll* amongst Germany's motorists commissioned by Delticom AG, Europe's leading Internet tyre dealer. The number of potential online tyre buyers is therefore much higher than many experts previously suspected. "More and more consumers are apparently discovering the benefits of tyre purchase from the Internet," says Rainer Binder, CEO of Delticom AG.

According to the survey, of greatest importance to motorists is that comparing offers on the monitor saves time. In second place comes the argument that tyres can be comfortably ordered from home. In third place comes the favourable price. Motorists from all income groups are interested in buying tyres on the Internet: 39 percent of higher earners with a household net income of over 3,000 Euros can imagine buying tyres online. In comparison: 32 percent of respondents with a household net income between 1,500 and 3,000 Euros and 28 percent of drivers with a household net income below 1,500 Euros would buy tyres online.

Women in particular appreciate the comfortable bargain hunting
Basically, men and women give the same arguments for online tyre purchase. But: women appreciate above all the comfort of ordering from home. 96 percent of women rate it as an advantage, compared to 89 percent of men. Women are also the bigger bargain hunters amongst tyre buyers: For 95 percent of women drivers the low price is an important argument for online purchasing. Amongst men, the number of bargain seekers is, on the other hand, 84 percent. In contrast, men found it most important to compare prices online. 95 per cent mentioned this as a criterion for online tyre purchase.

Amongst those questioned who, at this time, cannot imagine buying tyres online, every second person stated they would be basically reluctant to buy or order online. In the Internet, many missed the element of personal advice. For this reason the online shops of the market leader Delticom, assist its customers in finding the right tyre with many intelligent functions. After entering in the dimensions, the platform shows not only all of the suitable tyres, on request it also sorts them according to criteria such as brand, speed index or price range. Every customer can thus find the tyre that best meets their personal requirements. "Reliable consultants are also the drivers themselves, who test the tyres in everyday situations," explained Rainer Binder. On the international and independent test platform Tyretest.com, motorists appraise the tyres they themselves have bought. Here, over 100,000 reports can be viewed online. The distance travelled by active tyre testers on the platform adds up to a total of more than two billion miles. That is more than the distance between the Earth and Saturn. "Motorists will find so many reports and comparisons only on the Internet," said Rainer Binder.
